Afterburn 2025 Reviews

Afterburn

A solar flare has devastated global technology, plunging the world into a relic-filled dark age. A highly dangerous mission to recover a precious artifact ignites this brutal Action Movie.

The world is now ruled by black markets and warlords. Jake (Dave Bautista), a former soldier turned scavenger, specializes in retrieving priceless tech from the ruins of the "Afterburn." He takes a high-risk contract to find the "Genesis Device," a relic rumored to restore power, making this a high-stakes Scavenger Hunt.

Jake's journey is closely monitored by General Rix (Samuel L. Jackson), a powerful warlord controlling the largest remaining military force. Rix views the Genesis Device as his ticket to global domination and sends his most lethal operative, the skilled motorcycle assassin Lyra (Olga Kurylenko), after Jake and the artifact. The General ensures this is a Lethal Operative chase.

The rivalry between Jake and Lyra becomes the central focus, fueling a series of destructive confrontations across the ruined continent. Lyra, driven by an unshakeable code, constantly challenges Jake’s moral compass, turning their pursuit into a tense Fugitive Thriller where the lines between enemy and necessary ally blur.

The chase leads them to the irradiated, buried remains of Washington D.C. The action culminates in a massive Guerilla Warfare sequence where Jake must navigate the collapsed skyscrapers and evade Lyra’s ambush teams, utilizing his brute strength and survivalist instincts against their specialized gear and traps.

The climax is a brutal three-way fight at the Genesis Device site. Rix arrives, intending to betray both of them and seize the power. Jake and Lyra must forge a momentary, reluctant alliance to defeat Rix and his army. The final Explosive Showdown pits Bautista’s physical power against Jackson's strategic ruthlessness, with Kurylenko providing the crucial tactical edge.

The device is secured, but they choose not to activate it, fearing the catastrophic power it holds. They destroy it instead, preventing global tyranny. Jake and Lyra part ways, having earned a grudging respect, leaving the future uncertain but free. The film directed by J.J. Perry ends with them disappearing back into the silent wasteland, ready for their next Post-Apocalyptic Action assignment.
